Week 7: CCS Women’s Basketball Players of the Week

ATLANTA, Ga. (December 22, 2025) – The Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) has announced its Women’s Basketball Players of the Week.
 
Makayla Ford (Huntingdon) was named Player of the Week, while Leighan Jackson (Maryville) earned Rookie of the Week, released by the league office on Monday.

Makayla Ford delivered a dominant two-game performance to lead Huntingdon to an undefeated week, showcasing her scoring punch and defensive intensity. The senior guard erupted for 34 points, including eight three-pointers, in a 28-point road victory at MUW, continuing her role as the centerpiece of the Hawks’ offense. Ford followed that effort by setting the tone on both ends of the floor in Huntingdon’s 78–43 conference-opening win over Agnes Scott. She finished with a game-high 14 points while adding a league-high eight steals—four in the opening quarter—along with five rebounds and two assists. For the week, Ford totaled 48 points, nine rebounds, four assists, eight steals, and one block, guiding the Hawks to a 2–0 record and a 1–0 start in conference play.
 
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK– Leighan Jackson, Maryville

Freshman forward Leighan Jackson turned in an impressive showing at the Nelson Hinson Invitational, leading Maryville in scoring across the weekend. Jackson recorded 30 points, nine rebounds, one assist, and one steal over the two-game stretch, providing a steady presence in the frontcourt. Jackson was flawless from the field in Maryville’s contest against Catholic, shooting 4-for-4, and followed with another efficient outing against York (Pa.), connecting on 6-of-7 shots from the floor while going a perfect 4-for-4 at the free-throw line. Her strong all-around performance earned her a spot on the Nelson Hinson Invitational All-Tournament Team.

ABOUT THE COLLEGIATE CONFERENCE OF THE SOUTH (CCS)
The CCS is an NCAA Division III athletic conference that began play during the 2022-23 academic year. The conference features nine member institutions (Agnes Scott College, Asbury University, Belhaven University, Covenant College, Huntingdon College, LaGrange College, Maryville College, Piedmont University, and Wesleyan College) and sponsors championships across 14 sports. In addition to sharing the member institutions' geographic identity, the name 'Collegiate Conference of the South' is indicative of a shared commitment to academic excellence, which is commensurate with the NCAA Division III philosophy.
