Week 3: CCS Men’s Track and Field Athletes of the Week
ATLANTA, Ga. (April 1, 2025) – The Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) has announced its men’s track and field weekly honors, released by the league office on Tuesday.
 
Josiah Mellott (Covenant) was named this week’s Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, alongside Matthew Blocksom (Piedmont) who collected this week’s Men’s Field Athlete of the Week honor.
 
Manny Dut (Huntingdon) was also tabbed Men’s Track Rookie of the Week and Jayden Smith (Piedmont) earned Men’s Field Rookie of the Week.
 


TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – Josiah Mellott, Covenant
Senior  |  University Place, Wash
 
Mellott posted a top performance in the 1500m at the Emory Thrills in the Hills meet, clocking a personal-record time of 4:04. His impressive effort earned him a 20th-place finish in the highly competitive invitational.
 
FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – Matthew Blocksom, Piedmont
Sophomore  |  Acworth, Ga.
 
Blocksom delivered a standout performance at the SWU GottaRun meet, competing against a field of Division I, II, and NAIA athletes. He secured top-10 finishes in three events, placing eighth in the discus (40.41m) to claim the top ranking in the CCS, eighth in the shot put (11.57m) to rank seventh in the conference, and ninth in the hammer throw with a personal-best mark of 41.90m, moving to second in the CCS rankings.
 
TRACK ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Manny Dut, Asbury
Freshman  |  Danville, Ky.
 
Dut showcased his speed at the Landon Bond Classic, capturing first place in the 400m with an impressive time of 50.10.
 
FIELD ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Jayden Smith, Piedmont
Freshman  |  Johns Creek, Ga.
 
Smith dominated the shot put competition at the SWU GottaRun meet, earning first place with a throw of 13.78m. His winning mark ranks him first in the CCS and highlighted a strong showing for Piedmont, the only Division III program competing against a field of Division I, II, and NAIA teams.

ABOUT THE COLLEGIATE CONFERENCE OF THE SOUTH (CCS)
The CCS is an NCAA Division III athletic conference that began play during the 2022-23 academic year. The conference features nine member institutions (Agnes Scott College, Asbury University, Belhaven University, Covenant College, Huntingdon College, LaGrange College, Maryville College, Piedmont University, and Wesleyan College) and sponsors championships across 14 sports. In addition to sharing the member institutions' geographic identity, the name 'Collegiate Conference of the South' is indicative of a shared commitment to academic excellence, which is commensurate with the NCAA Division III philosophy.
