Week 2: CCS Softball Players of the Week

ATLANTA, Ga. (February 16, 2026) – The Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) has announced its softball weekly honors, released by the league office on Monday.
 
Payton Gilchrist (Huntingdon) was named Player of the Week, while teammate, Addison Gaines (Huntingdon) earned Pitcher of the Week honors.
 
Julie Mavity (Covenant) was also tabbed Rookie of the Week.
 

PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Payton Gilchrist, Huntingdon

Payton Gilchrist provided steady and efficient production at the plate as Huntingdon opened its season with a 2–1 series victory over Millsaps. The senior catcher collected four hits over the weekend, including two doubles, while driving in two runs and scoring twice. Gilchrist hit .667 during the series and did not record a strikeout, helping fuel the nationally ranked Hawks’ offense in the opening weekend.
 
PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Addison Gaines, Huntingdon

Addison Gaines delivered a dominant performance in the circle to earn her first win of the season during Huntingdon’s opening-day sweep of Millsaps. In a 4-0 shutout victory, the sophomore allowed just one hit while striking out 10 batters. Over the weekend, Gaines totaled 14 strikeouts across 11 innings pitched.
 
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Julie Mavity, Covenant

Julie Mavity turned in a solid debut week for Covenant, hitting .308 (4-for-13) in her first collegiate appearances. The freshman recorded a 2-for-4 performance against Sewanee, driving in a run and scoring once.

ABOUT THE COLLEGIATE CONFERENCE OF THE SOUTH (CCS)
The CCS is an NCAA Division III athletic conference that began play during the 2022-23 academic year. The conference features nine member institutions (Agnes Scott College, Asbury University, Belhaven University, Covenant College, Huntingdon College, LaGrange College, Maryville College, Piedmont University, and Wesleyan College) and sponsors championships across 14 sports. In addition to sharing the member institutions' geographic identity, the name 'Collegiate Conference of the South' is indicative of a shared commitment to academic excellence, which is commensurate with the NCAA Division III philosophy.
