Week 1: CCS Women’s Track and Field Performers of the Week

ATLANTA, Ga. (March 5, 2024) – The Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) has announced its women’s track and field weekly honors, released by the league office on Tuesday.
 
Ashaunti Barnes (Belhaven) was named this week’s Women’s Track Performer of the Week, alongside Allie Feltus (Piedmont) who collected this week’s Women’s Field Performers of the Week honor.
 
Syniah Sims (Belhaven) was also tabbed Track Rookie of the Week and Allison Cantrell (Piedmont) earned Field Rookie of the Week.
 
TRACK PERFORMER OF THE WEEK – Ashaunti Barnes, Belhaven
Senior  |  Jackson, Miss.
 
Barnes won the women's 400 meters at MC Spring Cleaning Classic with a time of 57.07 seconds. The Mississippi native also placed seventh in the women's 200 meters.
 
FIELD PERFORMER OF THE WEEK – Allie Feltus, Piedmont
Junior  |  Natchez, Miss.
 
Feltus finished second in the discus and 12th in the hammer at Berry. The junior is currently ranked first in the region in the discus and 11th in the hammer.
 
TRACK ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Syniah Sims, Belhaven
Freshman  |  Atlanta, Ga.
 
Sims finished fifth in Women's 100 Meters and ninth in Women's 200 Meters at MC Spring Cleaning Classic.
 
FIELD ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Allison Cantrell, Piedmont
Freshman  |  Canton, Ga.
 
Cantrell placed fifth in the long jump at Berry. She is currently ranked third in the region.

ABOUT THE COLLEGIATE CONFERENCE OF THE SOUTH
The CCS is an NCAA Division III athletic conference that began play during the 2022-23 academic year. The conference features nine member institutions (Agnes Scott College, Berea College, Belhaven University, Covenant College, Huntingdon College, LaGrange College, Maryville College, Piedmont University, and Wesleyan College) and sponsors championships across 14 sports. In addition to sharing the member institutions' geographic identity, the name 'Collegiate Conference of the South' is indicative of a shared commitment to academic excellence, which is commensurate with the NCAA Division III philosophy.
