Week 6: CCS Women’s Tennis Players of the Week

ATLANTA, Ga. (March 17, 2026) Katherine Nova (Asbury) was named Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, while teammate, Alexandra Garcia (Asbury) earned this week’s Women’s Tennis Rookie of the Week, released by the league office on Tuesday.
 
The duo Maisie Tanchanpongs and Estee Verdery (Covenant) were named Women’s Doubles Team of the Week.
 

PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Katherine Nova, Asbury

Katherine Nova continued her dominant play at the top of the lineup, going a perfect 4–0 across singles and doubles to lead Asbury to a 2–0 week, including a conference victory over Maryville. Competing exclusively at the No. 1 position, Nova secured straight-set singles wins over both Maryville and St. Ambrose, each by identical 6–3 scores. In doubles, Nova teamed with Alexandra Garcia for a pair of 6–3 victories at the No. 1 spot. With her performance, Nova improves to an impressive 23–2 overall record in No. 1 singles play over the past two seasons.
 
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Alexandra Garcia, Asbury

Alexandra Garcia turned in a strong all-around week, going undefeated in both singles and doubles to help guide Asbury to a 2–0 record. The freshman posted a 2–0 mark at No. 3 singles, earning straight-set victories over Maryville (6–1, 6–3) and St. Ambrose (6–4, 6–2). In doubles play, Garcia partnered with Katherine Nova to secure two 6–3 wins at the No. 1 position, contributing to a perfect 2–0 week in doubles competition.
 
DOUBLES TEAM OF THE WEEK – Maisie Tanchanpongs/Estee Verdery, Covenant

Maisie Tanchanpongs and Estee Verdery delivered a strong showing at the No. 1 doubles position, posting a 3–1 record against a competitive slate of opponents. The duo secured wins over pairs from Calvin, Anderson (Ind.), and Northwestern (Minn.), including a decisive 6–1 victory against Northwestern’s Hayashi and Langridge.

ABOUT THE COLLEGIATE CONFERENCE OF THE SOUTH (CCS)
The CCS is an NCAA Division III athletic conference that began play during the 2022-23 academic year. The conference features nine member institutions (Agnes Scott College, Asbury University, Belhaven University, Covenant College, Huntingdon College, LaGrange College, Maryville College, Piedmont University, and Wesleyan College) and sponsors championships across 14 sports. In addition to sharing the member institutions' geographic identity, the name 'Collegiate Conference of the South' is indicative of a shared commitment to academic excellence, which is commensurate with the NCAA Division III philosophy.
