ATLANTA, Ga. (April 1, 2025) – The Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) has announced its women’s track and field weekly honors, released by the league office on Tuesday.
Bailey Gassmann (Asbury) was named this week’s
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, alongside
Abbey Cox (Maryville) who collected this week’s
Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honor.
Maggie Higdon (Asbury) was also tabbed
Women’s Track Rookie of the Week and
Haley McLeer (Piedmont) earned
Women’s Field Rookie of the Week.
TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – Bailey Gassmann, Asbury
Sophomore | Churchville, Pa.
Gassmann put on another dominant performance at the Landon Bond Classic, securing victories in both the 1500m and 5000m races. Her efforts helped propel Asbury to a strong fifth-place team finish at the meet.
FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – Abbey Cox, Maryville
Freshman | Mosheim, Tenn.
Cox delivered a record-setting performance at the Landon Bond Classic, rewriting Maryville's record books in two events. She claimed first place in the discus with a throw of 36.67m, setting a new school record, and placed third in the shot put with another record-breaking mark of 11.02m. Cox also secured a fourth-place finish in the hammer throw with a 39.00m mark, contributing to Maryville’s fourth-place team finish out of 17 competing programs.
TRACK ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Maggie Higdon, Asbury
Sophomore | Bloomfield, Ky.
Higdon etched her name into Asbury history by running a 16.46 in the 100m hurdles, breaking the school record previously set in 2012. Her time also surpassed the program’s hand-held best from 1979.
FIELD ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Haley McLeer, Piedmont
Freshman | Palm Coast, Fla.
Competing as the only Division III team at the SWU GottaRun meet, Haley McLeer impressed with a seventh-place finish in the pole vault, clearing a personal-best 2.75m. Her mark now ranks second in the CCS.

ABOUT THE COLLEGIATE CONFERENCE OF THE SOUTH (CCS)
The CCS is an NCAA Division III athletic conference that began play during the 2022-23 academic year. The conference features nine member institutions (Agnes Scott College, Asbury University, Belhaven University, Covenant College, Huntingdon College, LaGrange College, Maryville College, Piedmont University, and Wesleyan College) and sponsors championships across 14 sports. In addition to sharing the member institutions' geographic identity, the name 'Collegiate Conference of the South' is indicative of a shared commitment to academic excellence, which is commensurate with the NCAA Division III philosophy.
