Week 6: CCS Women’s Volleyball Players of the Week
ATLANTA, Ga. (October 7, 2024) – Hannah Mathis (Covenant) was named Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week, while Sarah Jennings (Covenant) earned Defensive Player of the Week, released by the league office on Monday.
 
Isabelle VandeSchraaf (Asbury) was also tabbed Rookie of the Week.
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Hannah Mathis, Covenant

Hannah Mathis delivered a dominant performance for Covenant, helping the Scots to a 3-1 record this week. Mathis tallied 44 kills across four matches, posting an impressive .408 hitting percentage. She also contributed defensively with 18 blocks and six digs, averaging 3.67 kills and 1.50 blocks per set.
 
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Sarah Jennings, Covenant

Sarah Jennings showcased her defensive prowess this week, amassing 75 digs over four matches as Covenant went 3-1. She averaged a remarkable 6.25 digs per set and recorded a career-high 26 digs in a win against Piedmont. Jennings also added four service aces and 13 assists, rounding out an all-around stellar week as she anchored the Scots' defense.
 
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Isabelle VandeSchraaf, Asbury

Isabelle VandeSchraaf continued her impressive freshman campaign, leading Asbury to a flawless week with 46 kills and 40 digs over three conference matches. She also added three blocks and six assists, helping the Eagles sweep all three of their opponents without dropping a set. VandeSchraaf’s leadership on both offense and defense has been crucial to Asbury’s current six-match winning streak. The team is off to its best start in seven years, sitting at 10-4 overall and 5-0 in conference play.

ABOUT THE COLLEGIATE CONFERENCE OF THE SOUTH (CCS)
The CCS is an NCAA Division III athletic conference that began play during the 2022-23 academic year. The conference features nine member institutions (Agnes Scott College, Asbury University, Belhaven University, Covenant College, Huntingdon College, LaGrange College, Maryville College, Piedmont University, and Wesleyan College) and sponsors championships across 14 sports. In addition to sharing the member institutions' geographic identity, the name 'Collegiate Conference of the South' is indicative of a shared commitment to academic excellence, which is commensurate with the NCAA Division III philosophy.
