ATLANTA, Ga. (April 9, 2024) – The Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) has announced its men’s track and field weekly honors, released by the league office on Tuesday.

Silas Fair (Berea) was named this week’s Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, alongside Cheney Byrd (Covenant) who collected this week’s Men’s Field Athlete of the Week honor.

Austin Gatewood (Berea) was also tabbed Track Rookie of the Week and Jaden Marlin (Maryville) earned Field Rookie of the Week.


TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – Silas Fair, Berea
Senior |  Hillsboro, Va


Silas opened the outdoor campaign with a first place finish in the 800m run at the Landon Bond Classic (1:55.77). The Virginia native currently is ranked eighth in the Great Lakes region in the 800m run. 


FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – Cheney Byrd, Covenant
Sophomore |  Rising Fawn, Ga.


Byrd captured a 12th place finish in the discus throw at the Lee University - Fast Break Invitational (36.71m). The Georgia native also launched a 40.20m toss in the hammer throw for a twelfth place finish.


TRACK ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Austin Gatewood, Berea
Freshman  |  Azle, Tx.


Gatewood blazed around the track twice with a solid 2:02.13 in the 800m run. The Texas native is currently ranked third in the conference for the 800m distance.


FIELD ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Jaden Marlin, Maryville
Freshman  |  Atlanta, Ga.


Marlin highlighted his weekend performance with a seventh place finish in the javelin throw at the Landon Bond Classic (39.13m). The Georgia native took home a 10th place finish in the shot put with a heave of 12.11m. The freshman thrower also captured a 15th place finish in the discus throw (36.58m) and 22nd place finish in the hammer throw (34.59m).

ABOUT THE COLLEGIATE CONFERENCE OF THE SOUTH
The CCS is an NCAA Division III athletic conference that began play during the 2022-23 academic year. The conference features nine member institutions (Agnes Scott College, Berea College, Belhaven University, Covenant College, Huntingdon College, LaGrange College, Maryville College, Piedmont University, and Wesleyan College) and sponsors championships across 14 sports.
