ATLANTA, Ga. (March 19, 2024) – The Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) has announced its women’s track and field weekly honors, released by the league office on Tuesday.
Ashaunti Barnes (Belhaven) was named this week’s Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, alongside Cortney Brown (Piedmont) who collected this week’s Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honor.
Keyuna Peebles (Piedmont) was also tabbed Track Rookie of the Week and Shealee Gallegos (Piedmont) earned Field Rookie of the Week.
TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – Ashaunti Barnes, Belhaven
Senior | Jackson, Miss.
Barnes blazed around the track to a second place finish in the 400m run (56.94). The Mississippi native ranks first in the region in the 400 meters.
FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – Cortney Brown, Piedmont
Senior | Sparta, Ga.
Brown captured a third place finish in the javelin throw at the Bob Hayes Spring Break Invitational - Collegiate (34.21). The senior thrower ranks eighth in the region.
TRACK ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Keyuna Peebles, Piedmont
Freshman | Columbus, Ga.
Peebles finished in thirteenth place in the 100-meter run at the Bob Hayes Spring Break Invitational-Collegiate (13.03). The Georgia native currently ranks third in the conference in the 100 meter dash.
FIELD ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Shealee Gallegos, Piedmont
Freshman | Bloomfield, N.M.
Gallegos took home a ninth place finish in the hammer throw (36.40m) and eleventh place in the discus throw (32.66m) at the Bob Hayes Spring Break Invitational - Collegiate (36.40)

ABOUT THE COLLEGIATE CONFERENCE OF THE SOUTH
The CCS is an NCAA Division III athletic conference that began play during the 2022-23 academic year. The conference features nine member institutions (Agnes Scott College, Berea College, Belhaven University, Covenant College, Huntingdon College, LaGrange College, Maryville College, Piedmont University, and Wesleyan College) and sponsors championships across 14 sports. In addition to sharing the member institutions' geographic identity, the name 'Collegiate Conference of the South' is indicative of a shared commitment to academic excellence, which is commensurate with the NCAA Division III philosophy.
