ATLANTA, Ga. (April 2, 2024) – The Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) has announced its women’s track and field weekly honors, released by the league office on Tuesday.
Kimona Haynes (Belhaven) was named this week’s Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, alongside Cortney Brown (Piedmont) who collected this week’s Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honor.
Syniah Sims (Belhaven) was also tabbed Track Rookie of the Week while Ashyia Maddickes (Berea) and D’Asia Franklin (Belhaven) earned Co-Field Rookie of the Week honors.
TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – Kimona Haynes, Belhaven
Sophomore | Jackson, Miss.
Haynes claimed a new program record with a time of 56.19 seconds in the 400m run at the Southern Miss Invitational. The sophomore sprinter is currently ranked first in the region over the 400m distance. The Mississippi native was also a part of the 4x100 relay that placed second at the invitational meet.
FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – Cortney Brown, Piedmont
Senior | Sparta, Ga.
Brown captured a first place victory in the javelin throw at the SWU GottaRun Invite (33.28). The Georgia native is currently ranked as a top ten javelin thrower in the region.
TRACK ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Syniah Sims, Belhaven
Freshman | Atlanta, Ga.
Sims earned a fifth place finish in the 100m run at the Southern Miss Invitational (12.02). The Georgia native is currently ranked second in the region in the 100m dash.
FIELD ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Ashyia Maddickes, Berea
Freshman | Dayton, Ohio.
Maddickes propelled to a second place finish in the high jump at the Centre College Track and Field Invitational (1.50m). The Ohio native is tied for second in the conference in the high jump.
FIELD ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – D’Asia Franklin, Belhaven
Freshman | Utica, Miss.
Franklin secured a fourth place finish in the high jump at the Southern Miss Invitational (1.50m). The Mississippi native is tied for second in the conference in the high jump.

ABOUT THE COLLEGIATE CONFERENCE OF THE SOUTH
The CCS is an NCAA Division III athletic conference that began play during the 2022-23 academic year. The conference features nine member institutions (Agnes Scott College, Berea College, Belhaven University, Covenant College, Huntingdon College, LaGrange College, Maryville College, Piedmont University, and Wesleyan College) and sponsors championships across 14 sports. In addition to sharing the member institutions' geographic identity, the name 'Collegiate Conference of the South' is indicative of a shared commitment to academic excellence, which is commensurate with the NCAA Division III philosophy.
