ATLANTA, Ga. (April 22, 2024)– The Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) has announced its softball weekly honors, released by the league office on Monday.
 
Kristen Gilbert (Agnes Scott) was named Player of the Week, while Kennedy Carruth (Belhaven) earned Pitcher of the Week honors.
 
Kylie Stephens (Huntingdon) was also tabbed Rookie of the Week.
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Kristen Gilbert, Agnes Scott

Gilbert's performance over the weekend was exceptional for the Scotties. She went 5-for-6, contributing two RBIs, scoring three runs, and stealing two bases. Agnes Scott's split series with Covenant has positioned them favorably for seeding in the upcoming postseason tournament.
 
PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Kennedy Carruth, Belhaven

Carruth, a graduate student pitcher, made two starts and pitched a total of 8.0 innings without conceding a run, allowing just one hit. She was instrumental in wins against Millsaps and Berea, striking out 15 batters. Additionally, Carruth showcased her batting skills, going 6-for-11 at the plate with five doubles, five RBIs, and three runs scored.
 
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Kylie Stephens, Huntingdon

Stephens delivered an outstanding performance for the Hawks with four at-bats, securing three hits and scoring two runs, including a crucial double. The freshman outfielder tallied an impressive six RBI throughout the weekend.

ABOUT THE COLLEGIATE CONFERENCE OF THE SOUTH
The CCS is an NCAA Division III athletic conference that began play during the 2022-23 academic year. The conference features nine member institutions (Agnes Scott College, Berea College, Belhaven University, Covenant College, Huntingdon College, LaGrange College, Maryville College, Piedmont University, and Wesleyan College) and sponsors championships across 14 sports. In addition to sharing the member institutions' geographic identity, the name 'Collegiate Conference of the South' is indicative of a shared commitment to academic excellence, which is commensurate with the NCAA Division III philosophy.
