ATLANTA, Ga. (April 16, 2024) – The Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) has announced its women’s track and field weekly honors, released by the league office on Tuesday.
Ashaunti Barnes (Belhaven) was named this week’s Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, alongside Cortney Brown (Piedmont) who collected this week’s Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honor.
Syniah Sims (Belhaven) was also tabbed Track Rookie of the Week and Jakia Joiner (Belhaven) earned Field Rookie of the Week.
TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – Ashaunti Barnes, Belhaven
Senior | Jackson, Miss.
Barnes earned a second place victory in the 400m run at the Rhodes 7-Way Invitational with a time of 56.35 seconds. The Mississippi native led the 4x100m relay off to a second place finish at the invitational meet. The senior sprinter currently ranks second in the region in the 400m run.
FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – Cortney Brown, Piedmont
Senior | Sparta, Ga.
Brown established a new Piedmont school record with an eighth place finish in the heptathlon at the Berry Field Day Multis. The Georgia native tallied a point total of 3,667 points with a top two finish in the javelin throw (34.18m).
TRACK ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Syniah Sims, Belhaven
Freshman | Atlanta, Ga.
Sims claimed a third place finish in the 100m dash with a time of 12.08 seconds at the Rhodes 7-Way Invitational meet. The Georgia native collected another top five finish with a time of 26.07 seconds in the 200m run.
FIELD ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Jakia Joiner, Belhaven
Freshmen | Utica, Miss.
Joiner leaped to a third place finish in the long jump at the Rhodes 7-Way Invitational (4.91m). The Mississippi native also earned a fourth place finish in the triple jump at the invitational meet (10.92m).

ABOUT THE COLLEGIATE CONFERENCE OF THE SOUTH
The CCS is an NCAA Division III athletic conference that began play during the 2022-23 academic year. The conference features nine member institutions (Agnes Scott College, Berea College, Belhaven University, Covenant College, Huntingdon College, LaGrange College, Maryville College, Piedmont University, and Wesleyan College) and sponsors championships across 14 sports. In addition to sharing the member institutions' geographic identity, the name 'Collegiate Conference of the South' is indicative of a shared commitment to academic excellence, which is commensurate with the NCAA Division III philosophy.
